Title: Process Engineer
Remote based
About the role:
The Process Engineer is responsible for performing routine professional-based activities either individually or as part of a team and contributing to and/or managing process engineering projects related to the design, development, specification, improvements, and optimization of Company’s unique and proprietary chemical process technology. Key technological areas will focus on solids handling, enzymatic reactions, fermentation, distillation, evaporation, catalytic reactions, fractional distillation, hydrocarbon purification, utilities, and process safety. The Process Engineer will also provide engineering support to other functional groups within the organization as required to achieve Company’s Business Objectives. These additional Departments include, but are not limited to, Capital Projects, Plant Operation, Plant Maintenance, Safety-Health and Environmental, Business Development and Regulatory Compliance.
Who You Are
You are a collaborative problem solver who can integrate imagination and experience into novel solutions for developing the processes for our Net Zero plant. You have
- At least 4 years of experience in an engineering role within the petro-chemical or refinery industry; and/or
- Experience with renewable fuels manufacturing and the renewable energy industry preferably in sectors sensitive to carbon intensity and carbon footprint.
- Experience in developing mass and energy balances using an array of analytical techniques and calculation methods. Including chemical process modeling preferably using Aspen Plus or Aspen Hysys.
- Experience working in an OSHA / PSM regulated environment.
- Ability to design, specify, and trouble-shoot process unit operations based on experience and broad overall background in chemical and engineering sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry, analytical chemistry, process engineering)
- Ability to prepare, review, and update customary chemical process design documentation such a material and energy balances, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment specification sheets, process descriptions and narratives, plant layouts, general arrangement drawings, utility balances, cause and effect diagrams, emergency shutdown and interlock matrixes.
- Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) efforts, either individually or as part of a team, utilizing customary tools and techniques such as Wat-If studies, HAZOP studies, or Fault Tree Analysis to ensure an inherently safe process design and operation.
- Perform chemical process modeling of unit operations using commercially available software such as Aspen or Chemcad. Models may vary from single unit operations to plant-wide multiple units including multiple scenario material and energy balances.
- Develop, update and revise control narratives, control philosophies, control hardware and software specifications, and Human-Machine Interface systems as required for safe and efficient control of Company’s manufacturing process.
- Develop and perform operating and maintenance personnel process training and qualification programs either individually or as part of a team.
- Support Capital Projects Team with equipment design, sizing, cost estimating, justification analysis, construction and installation supervision, construction walk-downs, check-out, start-up, commissioning, and documentation.
- Support Operations Team as required to ensure safe manufacturing procedures including process troubleshooting, development of standard operating procedures (SOP’s), support the Management of Change (MOC) process, develop and perform process related experiments related to continuous yield and efficiency improvements, and any other activity requested in furtherance of a safe and efficient operation.
- Support Environmental, Health, Safety and Regulatory Teams with process related information, analysis, and compliance procedures.
- Work closely with outside design and engineering firms, manufacturers, fabricators, vendors, and contractors in the development, specification, fabrication or construction of equipment materials, or services related to Company’s chemical process technology by providing, instructions, revision, inspection, or approvals of all outside work.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) resource for the entire organization in a specific area, field, or discipline in which the individual is particularly proficient.
- You are comfortable working remotely and have the ability to travel to work sites to work for weeks at a time as necessary during project development.
