Job Summary


The Chemical Production Manager will lead the production department to be the best-version-of-itself and drive toward best-in-class. The Chemical Production Manager will own the production process, ensuring consistent and steady operation. The Chemical Production Manager will instill a data-driven, continuous improvement mentality. The Chemical Production Manager will have direct supervisory responsibility of the Shift Supervisors and Documentation Engineer/Technical Writer.

The Chemical Production Manager will support all policies, goals, and objectives of the company while representing the company knowledgeably and professionally.


Essential Job Functions

• Manages an effective production budget. Communicates unanticipated deviations to Plant Manager.

• Promotes a proactive (vs. reactive) culture.

• Drives knowledge and problem-solving ability to lowest levels of the organization.

• Holds supervisors accountable for day-to-day operations.

• Owns the operator training and qualification process.

• Diligently seeks root cause. Master of Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).

• Contributes to resolving the bad actors list; tracks failures, root causes, and drives production strategy changes to ultimately prevent future occurrences.

• Inspires others through a shared vision of the future.

• Supports plant shutdown activities with necessary resources.

• Demands best-in-class creation and use of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and steady operation.

• Subject Matter Expert (SME) of the production process.

• Ensures vendors and contractors are qualified to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to retain best-in-class production.

• Drives effective change through the Management Of Change (MOC) process.

• Ensures compliance with safety and environmental programs and regulations.

• Regularly communicates production department results to Plant Manager.

• Ensures compliance with policies and procedures and issues disciplinary action to employees as needed, in coordination with the Plant Manager and Human Resources.

• Facilitates the performance management process to include conducting performance appraisals and regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with employees. Documents in the performance management system accordingly.

• Manages, approves, and monitors employee PTO requests and timecards.

• Participates in the interview and selection process for new employees.

• Supports and promotes a positive and cooperative team environment that fosters creative problem solving and shared learning.

• Provides back-up for other department personnel as needed.

• Completes tasks assigned by the Plant Manager along with other duties not listed herein, but which need to be accomplished to maintain safe and productive day-to-day operations within the plant.

• Maintains confidentiality of all employee records and company matters.

• Ensures all local, state, and federal regulations are being met at all times.



Minimum Requirements


• Bachelor of Science degree or higher (from an accredited school) in the Engineering field.

o Bachelor of Science degree or higher (from an accredited school) in Chemical Engineering preferred.

• 3-5 years of operations experience in a large-scale industrial, continuous process manufacturing environment.

o Chemical, Petro, or Ethanol manufacturing experience preferred.

o Experience with processing equipment such as evaporators, heat exchangers, centrifuges, drying equipment, boilers, cooling towers, chiller, air compressors, pumps, valves, electrical circuits, and instrumentation preferred.

• 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role.

• Able to read, write, and comprehend the English language.

• The right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.

Physical Requirements


• This position requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

• Ability to work around and on industrial equipment.

• Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders up to 200 feet.

• Ability to work while standing on a continuous basis.

• Ability to enter confined spaces.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.

• Must be willing to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances.

• Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.

• Ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color on a computer monitor.

• Ability to communicate by using and hearing a 2-way radio system.

• Ability to respond to and support emergency issues on a 24/7 basis and work outside of normally scheduled hours as needed.
