Financial Controller
Reports to: CFO / FLSA Status: Exempt / Department: Accounting and Finance
SUMMARY:
The Financial Controller is responsible for all accounting duties to include financial reporting and analysis, asset management, monthly financial reporting, technical accounting analysis, internal control oversight and forecasting. This position is one of a group of controller-level positions managing the accounting and finance functions of this growing South Dakota agriculture commodity processing company. Employment for this position is conditioned upon successfully passing certain pre-employment requirements.

EXAMPLES OF CORE TASKS:
• Financial statement and operating metrics preparation
• Ensure timely close of monthly cycle including reasonable assurance of payables and receivables are properly recorded
• Prepare and review monthly cost reports • Prepare and review forecast information at required frequency
• Prepare and review reporting for monthly committee and Board meetings
• Ensure monthly bank packets are prepared and distributed
• Analyze and prepare reporting data for hedge positions ensuring open positions are within guidelines and the liquidity is adequate to support such positions
• Ensure quarterly and annual payroll tax returns are prepared and submitted timely
• Coordinate and prepare information for annual financial audits
• Prepare and manage income tax considerations including annual book to tax reconciliation and work with external tax professionals to ensure timely preparation of returns
• Ensure account reconciliations are performed for balance sheet accounts
• Coordinate the annual budgeting process
• Develop, implement and maintain internal and external operating policies relating to the transfer of funds
• Assist management in developing, implementing and maintenance of financial policies
• Provide required information to leaders on a timely basis
• Maintain general ledger and all monthly financial reports
• Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required
• 5 + years of accounting experience required, 7+ years preferred
• Commodity processing or production and/or grain accounting experience preferred
• CPA or CMA preferred • Knowledge of commodity hedging preferred
• Experience in financial reporting and analysis
• Experience in the preparation of management reporting
• Require working knowledge of Microsoft Great Plains and Microsoft Office Suite products
• Experience with Commodity Software accounting system helpful
• Must be able to communicate clearly in English
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position operates mainly in an office environment. In the office, the employee will work on a personal computer. In the plant environment, employees will be required to adhere to all Safety requirements and may be exposed to noise, heat, and other elements both inside and outside. Occasionally lifting weights of forty (20) pounds or less. Working on a PC while sitting for approximately 90% of the time
