Job Title: Ethanol Plant Engineer

Location: Brookings, SD

About the role:

The Plant Engineer plans, directs, and coordinates activities concerned with design, modification, and operation of process equipment in the ethanol plant by performing the following duties personally or by coordinating the activities of operations, and maintenance and contract personnel.

 

Who you are:

·        Support the operation of the plant by reviewing, studying, problem solving, and troubleshooting the plant systems and equipment and by recommending modifications or new equipment to improve operations.

·        Plans and implements capital projects relating to process improvements and plant expansions.

·        Coordinates project documentation including P&ID updates, operating procedures, training, equipment files, project files, all drawings.

·        Develops plant specifications for equipment, piping, electrical, instrumentation, etc.

·        Experience in corn dry milling, wet milling, ethanol, processing, chemical, or petrochemical environment preferred

·        Safety and Compliance: In-depth knowledge of safety protocols and OSHA requirements.

·        Instrumentation and Process Control: Proficient in instrumentation design and process control systems.

·        Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Experience in operating and maintaining continuous process equipment and systems.

·        Engineering Drawings: Skilled in reading and interpreting engineering drawings.

·        Project Management: Capable of managing multiple projects in a continuous operating environment.

·        Collaboration and Communication: Ability to work effectively with operators, maintenance technicians, and contractors.

·        Equipment Sizing: Expertise in sizing equipment for plant operations.

·        Technical Knowledge: Understanding of fundamental theories in heat and mass transfer, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, separations, and control systems.

 

Requirements and Experience

·        Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or bio systems preferred, mechanical engineering will be considered.

·        3 to 7 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

·        Strong written and verbal presentation capabilities, with the ability to make presentations to Senior Management, investors, lenders, producers, customers, and other groups including plant tours.

·        Skill and experience to establish and maintain inventory tracking systems that are acceptable to management and regulatory agencies.

·        To perform this job successfully, an individual must have expertise and proficiency with spreadsheet software and basic knowledge of word processing software plus experience both researching issues and accessing information on the Internet. Specific knowledge of grain management software and systems is desirable. 

 

 

Physical Requirements

This position operates in a process plant environment with strict safety, regulatory and conduct standards. The individual may be exposed to noise, heat, and other elements in outdoor and indoor environments. While performing duties of this position, the individual may be exposed to moving, mechanical parts, dusty conditions, high noise levels and chemicals. Specific physical requirements include:

·        Occasionally working in confined spaces,

·        Wearing proper respiratory protection,

·        Occasionally lifting weight up to 50#,

·        Climbing several flights of stairs and ladders,

·        Bending, twisting, and turning while lifting weights up to 50#,

·        Sitting at a desk for extended periods of time,

·        Working at heights and temperatures from -20 to 100+ degrees,

·        Standing for extended periods of time,

·        Working on elevated platforms and surfaces.
