Commodity Manager

As a Commodity Manager you will be responsible for managing corn origination, co-product logistics and related functions in order to maximize the benefit to the Company. In addition, you will be responsible for procuring corn at best price and providing sound administration of local corn risk position to reduce risk and enhance plant profitability. 


 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  1. Responsible for procuring corn from suppliers at competitive price given market conditions at time of purchase.
  2. Develop and maintain relationships with area producers and commercial entities with a strong emphasis on direct farmer business.  
  3. Report purchases as directed by supervisor to ensure appropriate hedging strategies are followed as outlined in the Risk Management Policy.
  4. Review hedging transactions for correctness.
  5. Ensure purchase contracts are signed and returned.
  6. Continue to develop and update producer and commercial contacts. 
  7. Monitor and report grain movement in the area for better market insight throughout the Company.
  8. Direct Scale Operator personnel to ensure proper grading of corn. Retain samples as required to address/resolve disputes.
  9. Direct daily activity of scale house.
  10. Maintain proper inventory levels of corn to keep plant producing at levels directed by Plant Manager.
  11. Report inventory levels to management and marketing partners as required.
  12. Maintain excellent communication with the team including marketing, railroad personnel, administrative and production staff.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS


 EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or related field required. 
  •  

 REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • 2+ years of commodity procurement experience with excellent knowledge of the grain industry.
  • Supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook required. Knowledge of general office equipment required. Experience with grain accounting software required.

 SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong basic math and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with internal and external customers, use tact and diplomacy and possess a customer service focus.  
  • Comfortable problem-solving skills, negotiating terms, resolving disputes and overcoming obstacles. 
  • Able to manage multiple priorities with efficiency and accuracy.
